Share

Opponent--Sacramento River Rats

Site--Cal Expo, Sacramento

Time--7:45

Records--Bullfrogs 7-7, River Rats 3-9-1.

Bullfrog update--Having lost four in a row, the Bullfrogs are back in Sacramento for the first time since June 19 when, citing what they called unsafe playing conditions at the outdoor rink, they forfeited rather than skate. Bullfrog General Manager Bob Destocki said team is satisfied with changes made at the rink and will skate. Defenseman Doug McCarthy, who leads the team with 12 goals and 13 assists, is expected to be a scratch while he plays for Canada in the World In-line Hockey Championship in Anaheim. Defenseman Darren Perkins, who leads the team in plus-minus rating (plus 14) is still sidelined with a quadriceps injury. The Bullfrogs signed free-agent forward Greg Lakovic, formerly of San Jose, and forward Chad Nelson, an RHI rookie who played for San Diego of the West Coast Hockey League. The team released forwards Jim Bermingham and Ray Edwards.

River Rats update--Resurgent Sacramento has emerged as the team to beat in recent weeks, after dropping its first six games. The River Rats are still in last place in the Western Conference, but only four points behind St. Louis and five behind the Bullfrogs. A big factor was the team’s acquisition of former Blades goaltender Sean Gauthier, one of the league’s best last season.
