United Auto Workers went on strike at a General Motors Corp. parts plant in Warren, Mich., shortly after midnight while another strike deadline loomed at a separate parts plant in Indiana. A walkout at GM’s transmission and wheel plant in Warren could lead to shutdowns within two days at the No. 1 auto maker’s North American assembly operations, according to a GM source who spoke on condition of anonymity. “It looks like we’re walking,” Jim Marcum, financial secretary at UAW Local 909 said moments after the strike deadline of 11:59 p.m. EDT. GM spokeswoman Christine D’Angela did not immediately comment. Negotiators at an automotive lighting plant in Anderson, Ind., faced a strike deadline of 12:59 a.m. EDT. UAW spokesman Reg McGhee in Detroit said those talks were continuing.
