Pitts Ranch Builder Offers Revised Plan

The City Council today will consider a new proposal to convert a 45-acre industrial park to housing.
Developers of the Pitts Ranch project on the city’s east end want to reduce the number of proposed housing units from 1,087 to 922.
The proposal also calls for scrapping a planned 165-unit mobile home park to use the 35-acre site as open space to protect the Calleguas Creek habitat.
The city Planning Commission approved the proposed changes this month.
But school officials, already burdened by an overcrowded district, say they are still concerned about how to accommodate the estimated 800 new elementary students the development would bring.
The project site is south of Upland Road between Lewis Road and Calleguas Creek. Pardee Construction will pay developer fees toward construction of a new school, but how much of the estimated $10-million cost it will contribute is still being negotiated.
If the housing project is approved, Pardee plans to begin housing construction in October. The council’s meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.
