A temporary replacement has been selected to lead the city while officials search for a replacement for retiring Glendora City Manager Art Cook.

Jack Smith, a veteran municipal administrator in several cities, will take the city’s helm for five or six months after Cook retires Aug. 10.

Smith, 63, was city manager in Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Carson and Murrieta, and was a assistant city manager in Azusa.

Smith joins Glendora on Aug. 1 and will remain as interim city manager until Cook’s permanent replacement is hired. Cook estimated that the search for a replacement would be completed by late December.

As a condition of the contract, Smith will not be a candidate for the permanent post, Cook said. Smith will be paid $9,200 a month without benefits, Cook said.
