Stuart Jewell; Pioneering Cinematographer

Stuart Jewell, 84, a pioneering cinematographer whose time-lapse photography contributed to the Disney Co.’s “True-Life Adventure” films, including “The Living Desert,” winner of an Oscar for best documentary in 1953. Indefatigable, he shot tens of thousands of feet of film every year. He traveled around the world after cancer surgery, filming steam locomotives, and closer to home he tried to capture the daily nuances of Southern California sunsets. He is survived by his wife, Irene, and two stepdaughters. On July 13 at his home in Costa Mesa of colon cancer.
