Starr Challenges Whitewater Judge

Share

A federal judge who postponed a trial in the Whitewater investigation should reverse his decision and allow another judge to study the issue, the Whitewater independent counsel said. In his motion, Kenneth W. Starr said the judge had erred in postponing indefinitely the bankruptcy fraud trial of former Arkansas Gov. Jim Guy Tucker. On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Stephen Reasoner granted a defense motion and postponed Tucker’s trial. Starr said the judge was biased toward a doctor who claimed that Tucker was physically unable to withstand a trial, which had been scheduled for September. The judge had acknowledged in his order that he had been a patient of the doctor’s.
