House Approves Bill Spurred by Air Crash

Inspired by the experience of the families of TWA Flight 800 crash victims, legislation that seeks to amend a law that limits compensation in offshore aviation disasters was approved by voice vote in the House. It moves to the Senate, where similar legislation is pending. The bill would amend a 77-year-old law that requires victims’ families to sue in maritime courts and limits compensation to lost income. Flight 800 exploded July 17, 1996, off Long Island, killing all 230 people aboard.
