Council May Order Study of Parks and Recreation

A $70,000 study of the city’s parks and recreation program could be approved by the City Council next week.

Results of the study would be issued next April by Mission Viejo-based RJM Design Group. The study would wrap up months of public meetings and review of the city’s parks and recreation master plan.

“We haven’t done this since 1989,” City Manager Tim Casey said. “We needed to get a current perspective of community priorities for our long-range planning for the future.”

The report would examine existing programs and completed projects, such as the Aliso Creek bike trail. Researchers would also focus on goals for future programming, such as new activities for teens.

If the contract is approved, RJM officials will run an inventory of all city, private and school facilities, such as parks and ball fields.

The company will also schedule a series of community workshops to hear what residents want added to the recreation master plan.

The 7 p.m. meeting will take place at City Hall, 27801 La Paz Road. Information: (714) 362-4300.
