Compton will celebrate Red Ribbon Week, the national crusade for a drug-free America, today at Compton Community College.

“We want Compton to become a model city with noticeably lower drug and gang involvement,” said Cedric Hicks of Compton’s drug and alcohol counseling program.

The event will begin with a five-mile walk-a-thon at 8 a.m. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and funds raised with the $5 registration fee will help finance a Christmas food giveaway.
