CSUN Plans ‘Instant Admissions Days’

Share

High school and transfer students can get a quick answer Monday and Tuesday on their admission applications to Cal State Northridge for the fall 1998 semester during “Instant Admissions Days” at the campus.

Instant admissions for prospective CSUN students are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the University Student Union.

Last month the university announced it would close admissions to incoming freshmen for next fall as of Nov. 30 because of high enrollment. As a result, school officials hinted that Instant Admissions Days would most likely be the only opportunity for students to secure a spot for next year.

“I think it’s a wonderful program for first-generation college students because it takes the mystery of the application process and allows students and their families to see admission professionals face to face as well as an opportunity to visit the campus,” said Lorraine Newlon, director of admissions and records at CSUN.

During the fifth annual Instant Admission Days, most prospective students in one visit will receive notification of their eligibility to the university by an admissions analyst. Successful students will be provided with a letter of admission.

A campus tour is also scheduled along with programs to ease students’ transition from high school to college, Newlon said. Participating students must complete an application form, pay the $55 application fee, provide SAT or ACT test scores if their grade-point average is 3.0 or lower. They also need to bring transcripts from high school or other colleges as well as proof of California residency, CSUN officials said. The university requires a minimum grade-point average of 2.0 for freshmen and transfer students.
