Silicon Cuts Price on Octane Power Desktop

Silicon Graphics Inc. lowered prices on its Octane power desktop computer line by as much as $5,000 on some models, in hopes of boosting its market share. The Mountain View-based computer maker, best known for workstations that create realistic images in movies such as “Jurassic Park,” said its entry-level Octane computers sell at prices now starting at $16,995. The Octane line is targeted at Silicon Graphics’ customers in manufacturing, graphics design and scientific research. Silicon shares fell 6 cents to close at $14.50 on the NYSE.
