Colorado State posted its sixth consecutive victory, routing Fresno State, 41-3, Saturday at Fort Collins, Colo., to clinch at least a tie for the Western Athletic Conference’s Pacific Division title.

The Rams (8-2, 6-1 in the WAC) haven’t lost since losing to Air Force, 24-0, in their conference opener.

“We’ve been playing very steady,” Coach Sonny Lubick said, “and this was probably our best performance of the year. We kind of controlled things most of the ballgame.”

Moses Moreno completed 20 of 26 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown and ran for another to lead Colorado State, which totaled 484 yards on offense. Fresno State (5-5, 4-2) was held to 212.

Fresno State quarterback Billy Volek, who hadn’t thrown an interception in his previous six games, was picked off by Eason Ramson on a tipped pass in the third quarter, ending a streak of passes without an interception at 204.

“We got completely handled,” Fresno Coach Pat Hill said. “We were never in this football game.”

Brigham Young 49, Tulsa 39--Sophomore Kevin Feterik, returning after missing three games because of a broken ankle, completed 15 of 28 passes for 246 yards and four touchdowns as the Cougars (6-3, 4-2) outlasted the Golden Hurricane (2-7, 2-5) at Provo, Utah.

The week before, the Cougars lost, 14-3, at Texas El Paso.

Brian McKenzie rushed for 187 yards and two touchdowns and Ben Cahoon had two touchdown receptions for BYU.

Air Force 24, Army 0--Tim Curry, who has blocked six kicks and intercepted seven passes this season, scored a touchdown on a 35-yard fumble recovery and Chris Gizzi made 18 tackles as the Falcons (9-2) shut down the Cadets’ running attack in a nonconference game at Air Force Academy, Colo.

The victory returned the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy to the Falcons. Army (3-5) won it last year, but the Air Force got it back with victories over Navy and Army.

Air Force didn’t allow Army past the 50 until late into the fourth quarter and held the Cadets to 127 yards rushing. Army had been averaging 347 yards, third among major colleges.

“Everything was working,” Gizzi said. “It was a great team effort, just like CSU [the 24-0 victory over Colorado State].”

Air Force had 310 yards rushing.

Wyoming 35, Nevada Las Vegas 23--The Cowboys (7-4, 4-2) overcame five turnovers--four lost fumbles and an interception--as they intercepted Rebel quarterback Jon Denton three times at Laramie, Wyo.

“The offense clicked, but turnovers prevented us from scoring more,” Wyoming Coach Dana Dimel said. “We had a lot of chances to score, but we just didn’t capitalize enough. We were frustrated that we couldn’t finish and put things away.”

UNLV (3-7, 2-5) returned one fumble 67 yards for a touchdown and another 84 yards to set up a score but also lost two fumbles.

Southern Methodist 28, Texas El Paso 14--Kelsey Adams ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns in 17 carries as the Mustangs (5-4, 4-2) defeated the Miners (3-6, 2-4) at Dallas for their fourth consecutive victory.

It’s the first time the Mustangs have been over .500 in November since 1986, before the NCAA-imposed death penalty devastated the program.

UTEP, which allowed Brigham Young only 226 offensive yards in last week’s upset victory, gave up 202 yards to SMU in the first half and 309 for the game.

San Diego State 48, San Jose State 21--Jonas Lewis rushed for two touchdowns and Eric Lewis scored on a 79-yard punt return to lead the Aztecs (4-6, 3-3) over the Spartans (2-7, 2-4) at San Diego.

Jonas Lewis ran for 90 yards in 22 carries and scored on runs of one and four yards in the first half as the Aztecs took a 35-7 lead.

Eric Lewis’ punt return gave San Diego State a 7-0 lead just 5:04 into the game. Lewis broke four tackles on the way to the end zone.

Rice 38, Texas Christian 19--Chad Nelson rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns to help the Owls (6-3, 4-2) defeat the Horned Frogs (0-9, 0-6) at Fort Worth, Texas.

Nelson scored on runs of one, 13 and 31 yards, giving him 24 for his career and moving him into second place on the all-time Rice touchdown list behind Trevor Cobb, who had 43 from 1989-92.

The victory was the fourth in five games for the Owls. TCU lost for the 11th consecutive time.
