Foley Leads UC Irvine Over UCSB in Water Polo

Freshman Mike Foley scored three second-half goals to lead sixth-ranked UC Irvine to a 6-5 victory over UC Santa Barbara in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo game Saturday at UC Santa Barbara.

Foley, a Tustin High graduate, scored his third goal with just more than a minute left in the fourth quarter, and it proved to be the game-winner.

Goalkeeper Tom Davis, making his 90th consecutive start for the Anteaters (8-10, 2-4), had nine saves.

In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer:

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 3, CS Fullerton 2--Art Ramirez and Charlie Lynch each scored a goal for the Titans (10-9, 3-2). Vince Harding scored the game-winner in the 67th minute for San Luis Obispo (6-10, 3-2).

In Big West women’s volleyball:

Long Beach State 3, Pacific 0--Benishe Dillard had 15 kills for No. 1-ranked Long Beach State (23-1, 14-0), which recorded its 14th consecutive victory. The 49ers’ Misty May had 49 assists and 20 digs in the 15-10, 16-14, 15-9 victory.

UC Santa Barbara 3, CS Fullerton 0--LaCretia Smith had 11 kills for CS Fullerton (12-15, 4-10). Carolyn Kittell had 34 assists for the Titans.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 3, UC Irvine 0--Julie Butts had 17 assists and four digs for UC Irvine (7-20, 2-12) in a 15-0, 15-5, 15-6 loss.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s volleyball:

Biola 3, Concordia 1--Michelle Wineke had a match-high 11 kills in four sets, 15-2, 15-0, 15-17, 15-3, for Biola (24-4, 13-1), which clinched its second consecutive conference title. Annie Clark had nine kills for Concordia (5-24, 1-13).

Westmont 3, Southern California College 2--Sally Birkhauser had 22 kills and Tina Rose added 16 for SCC (12-15, 3-11). Carrie Tinkham had 17 kills in the 15-17, 15-6, 7-15, 15-4, 15-11 victory for Westmont (7-7 in conference).
