My Favorite Weekend

Avoiding the Crowds: I love going to movies, but the movies at Century City and other places in L.A. sell out so quickly. So I go to the movie theaters far out in the Valley.

Entertaining at Home: I get together with friends at home a lot. We’ll order thick-crust pizza from Pizza Hut. (If you’re going to get down and dirty, you might as well get down and dirty!) We stay up until 1 or 2 a.m., just being loud and talking. But now that the nights are cool, I’m also perfectly content just to curl up in front of the fire with my husband, Donn Thompson, and read a good book.

Out for Dinner: One of my favorite restaurants when I was living in New York was the Shark Bar, and now that they have opened in L.A. on La Cienega, it’s fast becoming a favorite here. I love their macaroni and cheese, greens, black-eyed peas and honey-dipped chicken. If I’m eating what I’m supposed to, though, we go to Good Earth on Ventura Boulevard for health food.

An Unscheduled Existence: I have my treadmill, and sometimes it gets used a lot and sometimes it doesn’t get touched. I don’t like having commitments and rituals that I have to do. I know exercising is healthy, and I go through periods when I’m a madwoman and also periods where I don’t exercise at all. Either way, I’m happy.

For Inspiration: I love renting old movies and watching the old divas like Diana Sand, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. The old masters give me inspiration.
