Study Session to Focus on Grant Lobbying
The city will hold its first study session Monday to review lobbying efforts for grants and other cooperative efforts with the county, state and federal governments.
Mayor Miguel A. Pulido Jr. said the city will review lobbying efforts because of high-profile projects now underway, such as the proposed Discovery Science Center and federal courthouse, that involve other government agencies.

Government grants--A story Friday on Santa Ana’s lobbying efforts for state and federal grants incorrectly stated the amount received for the Discovery Science Center. The amount received over the last year is $3 million.
In the last year, Pulido said, one of the most important results of lobbying was a $30-million grant from the state and federal governments for the Discovery Science Center.
Monday’s session will be presented by Jill Arthur, who manages the city’s Intergovernmental Relations Program. Arthur described the session as a “review and preview” that will also cover lobbying efforts for 1998.
A key target for city officials is a $10.7-million request with the federal government to widen Bristol Street.
