‘The Preacher’s Wife’
This warm, sentimenta, yet serious 1996 film brings fantasy to bear upon the painfully real. An inspired reworking of 1047’s “The Bishop’s Wife,” it offers Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston (both pictured) in full dazzle. “Lord, I’m a little tired. I sure could use some help,” says a problem-laden pastor. God, who immediately dispatches the well-dressed angel Dudley (Washington) to work some miracles (Disney Thursday at 8:40 p.m.).
