Father Faces Charge Under New Anti-Gang Program
The father of a Valinda gang member has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, the first person to face criminal charges under a new pilot program cracking down on the parents of gang members.
Raul Ramos, 55, was arrested during a predawn sweep in the San Gabriel Valley when sheriff’s deputies descended upon the homes of gang members to warn their parents that they have a responsibility to keep their children out of trouble.
Ramos was detained after he stalled sheriff’s deputies at the door while his 15-year-old son tried to escape through the bedroom window, sheriff’s deputies said.
He was charged Friday with obstructing police officers and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the district attorney’s office, which is also requesting his probation from a 1994 conviction for resisting police be revoked. Ramos, who will be arraigned Nov. 20, faces up to 2 1/2 years in jail.
