Bruins Will Have Ears Pricked

Share

If UCLA is offside a couple of times Saturday, it may be because the Bruins are listening to the public-address announcer at the Coliseum.

Most of them will be eager for updates on the Washington-Washington State game, which also starts at 12:30 p.m. If UCLA beats USC and Washington beats Washington State, the Bruins will go to the Rose Bowl.

Even Coach Bob Toledo has been drawn into the hoopla.

“I’ll probably be listening,” he said. “If we’re winning.”

One who said he won’t, though, is quarterback Cade McNown.

“Man, I don’t care,” he said of the doings in Seattle. “I do not care a thing about that game. I just want to beat USC. That’s all I can do anything about.

“The Rose Bowl is awesome, but if you can’t concentrate on your biggest game of the year, that’s a shame.”

UCLA has scored 12 touchdowns on drives of 30 seconds or less, and 15 on drives of less than a minute.

The Bruins have scored touchdowns in 30 seconds or less in seven of 10 games, missing only against Tennessee, Oregon and Stanford, and doing it twice against Texas, Arizona and Washington.

Two other quick-strike touchdowns came on pass interceptions and a third on a blocked punt.
