Fourth of July Show Planned Next Year
Hoping to boost the fortunes of shoreline merchants, Channel Islands Harbor officials Thursday announced plans for a 1998 Fourth of July fireworks show.
Officials said the show would mark the first time the harbor has had a Fourth of July fireworks display, and they expressed hope they could make it as successful as the holiday season Parade of Lights.
The early announcement is aimed at building momentum toward business revival, officials said.
“We at the harbor have wanted this for years,” said Susan O’Brien, executive director of Channel Islands Marketing Inc. “I think it will be great for business.”
Sponsorships and donations from local businesses will pay for the show at a cost of about $40,000, O’Brien said. She said the show would be free for spectators.
