Envoy Condemns Albright’s Remarks

The Afghan ambassador to Pakistan, Maulawi Shahabuddin Dilawar, condemned U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright for referring to the ruling Islamic fundamentalist Taliban militia as “despicable.” “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan says these irresponsible remarks . . . emanated from her unawareness of the reality in Afghanistan and expresses its protest against such remarks,” he told reporters. During her visit to Pakistan this week, Albright harshly criticized the Taliban regime for its treatment of women and children and said such conduct violates human rights.
