Tenured Professor Fights for Salary

A psychologist is suing Northwestern University because it has not paid him since September even though he has tenure, which used to mean a lifetime job guarantee. Northwestern still considers clinical psychologist Daniel Kirschenbaum part of its faculty and recently renewed his faculty identification card but says that does not mean it has to pay him. The Evanston, Ill., university intends to argue that there is a difference between “appointment” as a tenured professor and “employment,” according to legal briefs.
