Attention Shoppers: a Sobriety Checkpoint
One of the busiest shopping days of the year will also include the Police Department’s first driver’s license and sobriety checkpoint of the holiday season.
Santa Ana police said they plan to set up a checkpoint from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday near 1st and Pacific streets.
Sgt. Bob Clark said that 1st Street is heavily traveled and is close to another major artery, Bristol Street.
A large number of people will be driving Friday, Clark said, adding that he expects more than 500 to be stopped at the checkpoint. Police will check to see that all drivers have valid licenses.
Officers also will make sure that vehicle operators are sober, which is a concern, Clark said, because there is a “tremendous amount” of drinking and driving during the holiday season.
Police probably will set up one or two more checkpoints by New Year’s Day, officials said.
