Bobbi McCaughey says she and her husband wondered if God was punishing them when she learned she was pregnant with her seven babies.

“First, it was just like, ‘God, why have you done this to us?’ Like it was something that was wrong,” she said on “Dateline NBC.”

But “any child is a gift from God no matter whether it’s one at a time or seven at a time,” she said.

The four boys and three girls continued to improve Tuesday.

Natalie Sue was removed from her ventilator about noon and was upgraded to fair condition. Kenneth Robert, the oldest and heaviest, is the only other sibling in fair condition and has been breathing without a ventilator since Friday, two days after the children were born by caesarean section.

In Washington, meanwhile, a family with five surviving sextuplets is getting a hand. When Jacqueline Thompson delivered the six last May, few people offered help.

The phone began to ring after news reports contrasting that situation with the outpouring of support for the McCaugheys.

Even the Thompsons’ dream of a house will come true. They also got two new vans.
