Angel Trees Display Children’s Wish Lists

Share

Christmas trees with cardboard angels displaying the names, ages and wish lists of needy Orange County children are popping up all over in hopes that the public will pick a name and buy a gift for the youngsters.

The Salvation Army is the main organization that sponsors the Angel Tree programs.

Scores of businesses, agencies and government offices participate by erecting trees with the cardboard angel ornaments attached.

All Mervyn’s and Target stores and Carrow’s restaurants are among the businesses taking part in the program in Orange County, said officials of the Salvation Army, which has more than 60 co-sponsors.

Once the gifts are collected, volunteers distribute them to children, along with boxes filled with food, Salvation Army spokesman Warren Johnson said.

He added that more than 20,000 children each year are recipients of the Angel Tree program.

To volunteer, call (714) 832-7100.
