Panel OKs Plan to Upgrade Streets in Shopping Area

Share

As part of its continuing effort to create a more pedestrian-oriented downtown, the Culver City Redevelopment Agency approved a plan to improve the appearance of an alleyway leading from parking structures to two principal shopping streets.

Anne Friedrich, deputy director of community development, said that the agency approved $200,000 for enhancements to an alley linking a city parking structure on Watseka Avenue to Culver Boulevard and Main Street, which are lined with restaurants and businesses.

Improvements completed over the next 12 to 18 months may include lighting the alley and installing new signage, pavement and public art.

Friedrich likened the agency’s Paseo Network project to the alleys that lead shoppers in Santa Monica from city parking structures onto the Third Street Promenade.

The redevelopment agency--whose members are also Culver City City Council members--also is considering a plan to build another parking garage on Cardiff Avenue. That structure would be served by the same alley.
