El Concilio Receives Amgen Grant
* El Concilio del Condado de Ventura received a $2,500 grant from the Amgen Foundation’s Challenge Grant Program. The money will help support the nonprofit organization’s Breakthrough Youth for Success Program, which helps youths take greater responsibility for their lives, family and community.
Coalition Against Violence Honors Volunteer
* The National Coalition Against Sexual Assault honored Nancy Staerzl with the “Women Holding Up the World” award. Staerzl is a volunteer with the Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence, a nonprofit agency in Ventura that provides emergency shelter to battered women and their children.
Ojai Group Presents Conservation Award
* Caryn Bosson was honored with the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy’s 1997 Conservation Award. Bosson served as membership director for the conservancy before leaving in July to assume duties as executive director of the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation.
The award cited Bosson for her “outstanding programs to plant and preserve Ojai’s Heritage Oaks.” During her four-year tenure with the conservation group, Bosson founded Ojai Releaf, a volunteer project dedicated to native tree care in the Ojai Valley.
