Crystal Gazing--The future of Crystal Cove will be discussed at a meeting of the Sierra Sage chapter of the Sierra Club on Tuesday. The program, “Crystal Cove: A State Seashore Park or Resort for the Wealthy?” begins at 7 p.m. at Recreational Equipment Inc., 25732 El Paseo, Mission Viejo. Speakers will present the history of the Crystal Cove Historical District, the negative aspects of the contract signed by the state Department of Parks and Recreation to build a resort, and alternatives. Fishing for Compliments--Orange Coast College’s Marine Science Department will be showing off its aquariums and sea creatures at an open house Saturday. Students will give tours and demonstrate how they test water, collect marine samples, feed animals and clean the tanks. The cold-water aquarium, the largest in Orange County, features different local habitats, including a kelp forest, a Corona del Mar tide pool and an octopus tank. The warm-water aquariums hold tropical fish and corals from reefs around the world. The open house runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Marine Science Lab, in the college’s Lewis Center for Applied Sciences. There will be face painting, touch tanks filled with local tidal animals and door prizes. Admission is free. Orange Coast College is at 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. Pole Position--Discover how frogs turn from “Eggs to Legs” at a workshop for children 4 to 10 years old at the Discovery Museum of Orange County on Saturday. Included in the workshop is a tadpole puppet show and an exploration of frogs’ habitat in the museum wetlands. The workshop takes place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the museum, 3101 W.
