Missing Textbooks

* The article on the textbook shortage and the plans of the California Community Foundation to provide grants and expertise (Nov. 19) was welcome news indeed.

Since one of the problems is the return of textbooks that “drift off” for one reason or another, why not allow the return of textbooks to the off-hour drop boxes located at many of the city and county libraries? Both the city of Los Angeles and the county have extensive existing networks to get books from one library to another. Couldn’t the books be picked up and returned to some central location for sorting, identification and returned to the school involved?

Isn’t this an existing resource that could be used?
