A 2-year-old boy was seriously injured Tuesday when hit by a van he had darted in front of to reach his mother across the street, police said.

About 2 p.m., Yolanda Romero, 26, parked on Education Lane across from Isojiro Oka Elementary School, 9800 Yorktown Ave., police said.

She escorted two children across the street to the school, but while she was there her 2-year-old son, Eddie Santana, got out of the car and tried to cross the street, police said.
