Beverly L. Adkins; Lifelong Ventura Resident

Ventura native Beverly L. Adkins, a retired data entry operator for the Ventura Unified School District, died Tuesday in a local hospital following a brief illness. She was 59.

Adkins was born July 30, 1938, and was a lifelong resident of Ventura. She worked for the school district for 15 years, retiring in 1988.

Adkins was an avid gardener and antique collector, and enjoyed reading and collecting books. Family members say she spent the last year of her life providing day care for grandson Nicholas, who was born on her 58th birthday.

In addition to her grandson, Adkins is survived by her husband Wayne; daughter Lisa Walker of Ventura; son Kevin Adkins of Ventura and mother Genola Coon of Ventura.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Coon, in 1995.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura, with the Rev. Dana Eaton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ventura Unit of the American Cancer Society, 3737 Telegraph Road, Suite D, Ventura CA 93003.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
