Group Urges Establishing Local Architecture School

A group of architects says something important is missing in Orange County: a full-fledged school of architecture.
To that end, the year-old Emerging Architects group sent a proposal to Marina del Rey-based Southern California Institute of Architecture last month about opening a branch school in Orange County, possibly in Santa Ana.
Bryan Cantley, a professor of environmental design at Cal State Fullerton and Emerging Architects member, said the group already has met with institute officials and expects to meet again in coming weeks.
Don Cribb, who helped launch the community of private and proposed public buildings in Santa Ana known as the Artists Village, said a school of architecture could complement the downtown project.
“Because we don’t have a coastline in Santa Ana,” Cribb added, “we are dependent on buildings to infuse our environment with interest and excitement.”
