‘Quilt of Hope’ Spreads Message on Breast Cancer

Share

A “Quilt of Hope” composed of squares made by breast cancer survivors and friends who live in Ventura County will tour Ventura County this month.

October is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the quilt is a project of the Ventura County Breast Cancer Early Detection program.

“It’s a reminder to women that they can survive breast cancer, especially when it’s detected early,” said Marjorie Cole, an American Cancer Society volunteer. “Women need to know that you can survive this disease and live a full life.”

The quilt, a 5-by-5-foot “stacked bricks” design, is on display at the Simi Valley Library through Tuesday, then will be moved around the county.

It will be featured in a “Break the Silence” breast health walk and rally at noon at Camarillo Premium Outlets on Oct. 18.

Groups may still request an exhibit showing for this month and beyond.

Anyone wishing to display the quilt or contribute a square to the next quilt may leave their names at their nearest Ventura County American Cancer Society unit.
