BE A PERFORMER
As a Puerto Rican, I want to thank you for introducing the rest of the United States to the young Puerto Rican entertainer Chayanne (“It’s Chayanne’s Autumn,” by Kevin Baxter, Sept. 28). I too believe he is the next Antonio Banderas. Chayanne needs an audience. That much we know.
But look a little further and you’ll see a surprising insecurity. Chayanne proves he exists through other people’s praise and adulation. His answer to the great questions of life, to paraphrase Descartes, is “I perform, therefore I am.” And this, of course, makes him such an irresistible entertainer! Just ask Hollywood.
