Chapman Homecoming Underway

Rain clouds threatened, but nothing dampened the artistic spirit of Chapman University students who created a sidewalk chalk-art show Monday to kick off Homecoming Week.
Using pastel pencils of lavender, pink and green, the students drew designs worthy of this year’s Homecoming theme, Parti Gras.
Student groups will participate in activities all week, with events to be capped Saturday by a free public carnival, the university’s first.
Proceeds from 50-cent game and food tickets will fund charities sponsored by student groups, university officials said. The carnival will run from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. A parade with alumni and student floats will begin about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the grove near Hutton Sports Center.
Tickets also are available for the homecoming football game, when the Panthers take on Menlo College at 7 p.m. Saturday.
