Council Orders Traffic Plan for L.A. Arena
A City Council panel today ordered the developers of the proposed downtown sports arena to draft a plan to alleviate traffic and parking problems before and after events.
In issuing the directive, the Planning and Land Use Management Committee denied an appeal by a coalition of residents who live near the site of the proposed arena; they wanted the conditional use permits rejected, because the developers - Los Angeles Kings co-owners Ed Roski Jr. and Philip Anschutz - failed to account for projected traffic problems.
Committee Chairman Hal Bernson asked the developers to consider providing shuttle service to and from Union Station, where Metro Rail and Metrolink trains originate, and alternatives to parking in neighborhoods near the arena.
