There’s a Familiar Ring to Scam Artists’ Ruse

Share

Police are alerting local businesses about a pair of scam artists who promise a $700 reward for the return of a lost ring.

In two cases, a man identifying himself as a doctor called small businesses and reported that he lost an expensive ring near the property. He offered a $700 reward for its return.

Then, a second man would enter the businesses claiming to have found the ring.

After learning of the reward from the store owner, the finder claimed to be too busy to wait for the doctor to arrive with the reward.

He would then ask the business owner to give him $350, under the premise that the store owner would make a profit when the doctor arrived with the reward.

Police reported that neither of the businesses fell prey to the scam.
