City Offers Free Sandbags to Residents, Businesses
In preparation for expected storms this winter, the city is offering free sandbags to residents.
The bags--minus sand--are available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at the city’s streets and sanitation yard at 400 E. Vermont Ave. and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on alternate Fridays. The office will be open Friday.
Residents also can pick up bags at the engineering department public counter on the second floor of City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
City officials suggest residents fill the bags with dirt from their own planters or with sand bought from a construction supply business. Proof of residency, such as a utility bill or driver’s license, is required. Business owners should bring their business license.
Residents can receive as many as 10 bags and businesses as many as 25.
