Parking Meters Planned for Beach Boulevard
About 90 new parking meters will be installed along Beach Boulevard’s southern end next year in an effort to raise money for street cleaning.
The City Council this week unanimously approved the meters along the southern end of Beach Boulevard between Pacific Coast Highway and Atlanta Avenue. The meters will be installed by January and will charge users $1 per hour.
Ron Hagan, director of community services, said garbage accumulates daily from people who park along Beach Boulevard to reach Huntington City Beach and Huntington State Beach.
“The city experiences a large amount of trash, and it has to be picked up daily. If not, it can blow into the adjacent wetlands,” Hagan said.
A red painted asphalt curb will be built along the northern end of Beach Boulevard to prohibit parking.
