Coalition Pushes Plan for Homeless Shelter
- Share via
A coalition of citizens will ask the City Council to endorse plans for the city’s first homeless shelter at its Oct. 27 meeting.
Plans call for placing two trailers near City Hall, said Michael Jordan, 47, Pepperdine University professor of communications and a coalition leader. The trailers will house 30 people, he said.
The push began after a homeless day laborer died last January from the cold. Jordan said that Malibu has 50 to 100 homeless individuals.
Many of the homeless are day laborers who often stand outside a trailer near City Hall hoping to get work. They will be expected to help fill sandbags during predicted El Nino storms, he said.
The coalition is seeking donated trailers, blankets and food.
