Realtors Raise Funds for Low-Cost Housing

The Conejo Valley Assn. of Realtors has donated $2,100 to Many Mansions for the purchase of furniture in the nonprofit agency’s new low-cost housing project.

The money was raised at the real estate group’s fashion fund-raising show last summer and will be earmarked for the Stoll Community House, which will be ready for occupancy next month.

The 11-unit complex will house single mothers and their children.

“These would be people who would be homeless were it not for this project,” said Lee Milman, Many Mansions’ project manager.

She said the donation from the real estate group is important because Many Mansions is also responsible for furnishing the apartments for the low-income families.

Many Mansions has raised $6,000 of the $70,000 needed to furnish all 11 units. Milman said her agency will purchase all the furnishings needed and reimburse its accounts with future donations and fund-raisers.

The goal of this project is to help each family make the transition to permanent housing and self-sufficiency within one year.

Construction of the complex and purchase of the half-acre of Los Robles Road land cost $1.9 million in city, county, state and federal funds.

The complex is named after Otto Stoll, a longtime community activist and agency board member.
