Golf Course Waives Fees for Volunteers

Share

Camarillo Springs Golf Course is offering unlimited free golf to volunteers in its Ambassador Program.

Members of the Ambassador Program, founded by the American Golf Corp. more than 20 years ago, are generally required to work two six-hour shifts per week on the 18-hole golf course.

“You get to drive around in a little cart, help the customers, give directions on the course, rake traps and do a little work on the greens,” said Dave “Doc” O’Connor, who runs the program.

Ambassadors also assist with about six charity tournaments a year.

“Golf, as a sport, is known for giving money, sponsoring charities and doing good work for people in need all over the country,” said the 67-year-old Leisure Village resident, adding that the Fore Children Tournament held at the course this summer brought in about $80,000.

Most of the volunteers are retired seniors, but O’Connor said there are a few who work all week and then volunteer.

“It’s a chance to give back and to be around people who play golf,” O’Connor said.
