Freeway Expansion Plan Spurs Fears of Residents

Share

Downey residents afraid that their homes are marked for demolition were unable to get firm answers on which properties would be affected when they met with Caltrans officials for a briefing on plans to widen the Santa Ana Freeway.

Which homes are in danger depends on which of six plans is selected to improve traffic flow along the busy freeway connecting downtown Los Angeles to Orange County.

“It is too early in the process to consider the exact impact to homeowners and businesses because an alternative has not yet been selected,” said Assistant City Manager June Yotsuya.

City officials said that Downey and neighboring cities are opposed to widening the freeway to 12 lanes.
