Back-to-Basics Status for Saddleback High to Be Discussed
Trustees today will discuss turning Saddleback High School into the district’s first fundamental high school, stressing a back-to-basics curriculum.
Committees of district staff and school parents have been formed to discuss the proposed change, which would be effective with the 1998-99 school year. Fundamental curriculum in the Santa Ana Unified School District has traditionally included English-only instruction.
In a recent survey, almost half of 337 parents responding opposed the proposed change, according to a staff report. About 35% supported it, and 16% were undecided.
The board meets at 7 p.m. at 1601 E. Chestnut Ave. Information: (714) 558-5512.
