School Board May Not Renew Coastline Lease

Share

Newport-Mesa Unified School District trustees may decide tonight to give notice to Coastline College that they will not renew the college lease on its Eastbluff School property.

Board President Martha Fluor said the district may need the property to accommodate a possible increase in public school enrollment when students from Bonita Village, a housing project under development, begin attending Newport-Mesa schools. Bonita Village lies just south of the San Joaquin Hills Corridor, near MacArthur Boulevard.

No decision has been made yet whether Bonita Village children will attend Eastbluff or another school in the area, Fluor said, but the board wants to make sure the space is available if needed.

Coastline’s lease expires in 1999. A private elementary school, Waldorf, now uses the Eastbluff building under a sublease from Coastline.

The Newport-Mesa board will meet at 7 p.m. at the Education Center, 2985 Bear St., Costa Mesa.
