City to Use School Property for Community Center

Share

Saddleback Valley Unified School District board members agreed Tuesday to allow the city to develop about six acres of unused school property for an 18-acre community center project.

The $20-million city-funded project, at Alicia Parkway and Paseo de Valencia, will include indoor and outdoor athletic facilities linked by an access road to Laguna Hills High. Students there will be able to share the use of these facilities during hours specified in the contract.

The city plans to begin the project July 4. The new facilities will include two baseball diamonds, two soccer fields, a roller hockey rink and a skateboard park. The city also will build a community center including a 15,400-square-foot multipurpose room, a 15,100-square-foot gymnasium and a 10,000-square-foot library.
