37 Slain, 14 Hurt in Northwest Region

Unidentified assailants killed 37 people and seriously wounded 14 others in the northwest region, where the Tutsi-led army has been fighting Hutu rebels, Rwandan radio reported. The killings occurred about 40 miles northwest of the capital, Kigali, the report said. It quoted survivors as saying that the attackers also stole property and money from the victims and that several villagers were missing. Thousands of people fled their homes, the broadcast said.
