Swiss banks, accused of hoarding Holocaust victims’ money, said Thursday that they will publish a second list of dormant accounts containing $12.4 million, bringing the total found so far to about $52 million.

Georg Krayer, chairman of the Swiss Bankers Assn., said the money discovered in dormant accounts opened before the end of World War II was still significantly below the amounts that Jewish groups allege Swiss banks are hiding.

“After the comprehensive search, the facts refute the distorted claims that Swiss banks had billions of U.S. dollars of money from Holocaust victims,” Krayer told a news conference.

The list, to be published Oct. 29, for the first time includes the names of 10,000 Swiss citizens with dormant accounts opened pre-1945 and worth almost $8 million.

The names of 3,700 non-Swiss account holders with assets of about $4 million will be published on the Internet and sent to more than 30,000 people who have contacted Swiss bankers since a first list was published in July.
