Former Priest Waives Extradition in Texas Molestation Case
A former Catholic priest accused of sexually abusing altar boys waived extradition Friday and is being held without bail pending the arrival of Texas authorities.
Rudolph “Rudy” Kos, 52, will be held under protective custody while awaiting extradition.
Kos’ attorney, Brad Lollar, said this week that the charges probably stem from allegations of former altar boys--now grown--who filed a civil suit against Kos and the Dallas diocese and won a $119-million judgment this year.
Kos appeared before Municipal Judge Gale Kaneshiro on Friday. “Your Honor, I intend to fully cooperate with the system until I am fully vindicated,” Kos said.
Kos was suspended as a priest in 1993, 14 months after the first former altar boy complained of being sexually abused by him.
At the request of Texas authorities, Kos was arrested Wednesday in San Diego on eight warrants charging him with aggravated sexual assault and indecency with children, police said.
Lollar said his client has denied any sexual misconduct with the boys.
