Pedestrian Killed, Companion Hurt in Crash
A 28-year-old Las Vegas woman was killed Saturday and a male companion was injured when a car struck them as they tried to cross West 1st Street, police said.
The pair were hit about 10 p.m. as they crossed at South Franklin Street, an area where there is no crosswalk, Santa Ana Police Officer Jim Donnelly said.
Coroner’s officials did not release the woman’s name, pending notification of her relatives. She died at UCI Medical Center in Orange shortly after being struck.
The man, Alejandro Tapia, 33, was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana with serious injuries.
Donnelly said both victims were thrown about 30 feet after being struck by the car traveling west on West 1st Street.
Authorities said the driver, a 41-year-old Huntington Beach man, was not cited in the incident.
