Spotlight: State’s First Produce Shipment to China Arrives
Table grapes from a family-owned farm in Delano arrived Monday in Nanjing, China, the first state-grown produce to make its way to the Asian nation under an agreement signed in May. Until now, the only other fresh commodities formally allowed into China have been apples and cherries from Washington state. California already ships $257 million in goods to China, led by cotton, fish and beef. The state Table Grape Commission estimates that direct sales to China could reach $50 million in three years.
